DIY Homemade Onion Soup Mix

onion soup mix

Are you wondering why I am making my own homemade onion soup mix when I never serve it as a soup? There’s been a few freezer cooking recipes I’ve wanted to try using store-bought mix and I found a simple recipe to implement. Laura’s recipe looked so easy to stash in my freezer and try with my next Crock Pot French Dip meal. You’ll see my new recipe link back to this easy recipe. I made my first round without celery salt and turmeric because I didn’t have time to go by the spices in the bulk department of Earthfare or Whole Foods. Next time, I’m going to buy this exact amount of each to see if it truly makes a difference in the recipe. Let me know if you try it with and without it before I do. I am excited to have this on hand in my freezer with my taco, ranch seasoning and Cajun seasoning. I love having wholesome seasonings made ahead of time. I am stocked and ready to freezer cook in 2015 without preservatives, MSG and other words I can’t pronounce!

Onion Soup Mix

2/3 cup dried, minced onion
3 teaspoons parsley flakes
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons turmeric (optional)
1 teaspoon celery salt (optional)
1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
1 teaspoon raw sugar (or regular)
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

Mix all ingredients in a labeled freezer bag. Close bag and shake, shake, shake. Shake the bag well before each use because the small seasonings stay settle and you want them evenly divided.

Do you make your own homemade seasonings?
