Recently I read an enchanting children’s book with my two youngest children, ages 4 and 7, titled The Pirate and the Firefly. As I read the story to my kids, I envisioned myself in similar situations as a child. How difficult it was to fit into the popular crowd, trying to be cool, doing things you know in your heart is wrong. Things haven’t changed for kids. The challenges are still there as they grow and mature and now there are books like this one with teachable moments to share before they reach those milestone moments. I really appreciate the story, captivating words, real life choices and reactions within the pages of this book. Each carefully illustrated page depicts a story that a parent can recall from their his/her childhood, yet prepare their own child for the real world.
It was no mistake that I’ve been reading in Deuteronomy in my chronological Bible the verses, 11:19 ”You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.”
This engaging book helps me teach my children about God’s Words dealing with friendship and enemies, stealing, peer pressure and following after God’s heart. There’s so much Truth and encouragement found in this delightful book that my children have asked me to read over and over again. I highly recommend it.
I received my complimentary copy for review from Sara Pence, Publicist at Shelton Interactive. All my opinions are my own.
