My Teaching Journey

One thing I do know, I was blind, but now I see. John 9:25

Recently my six-year-old son received glasses for his near sighted vision. He discovered a whole new world awaiting him. Simple letters and shapes became clearer in the physician’s office. Billboards were screaming and marque letters jumped out their skin. His saucer eyes displayed amazement and brilliance. However, I’ll never forget his clever words uttered, “I was blind, but now I see.”

I have pondered over this famous, cliché for weeks and related this notorious phrase to myself. I also was blind, but now I see. About seven months ago my youngest child went to preschool and I had a desire for a career after thirteen years of staying at home. I sought many different avenues of income thinking that I would be content with more money and prestige. After countless sleepless nights and no second interviews, I realized God had a different plan for my life. It happened to be the same road I walked over thirteen years ago before I birthed my first child: high school teaching.

I never expected the fork in the road to be clear, but it’s been crystal this past few weeks. In anticipation for teaching culinary classes, the ideas have flowed like milk and honey. I feel an energy and excitement surging through me. It’s no mistake that my morning devotion read, “Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” Isaiah 43:18-19 Today is my first day of returning to teaching.

IPads, IPods and IPhones, can synch all our family’s data; sort of impressive. God synchronizing His Word to my life’s journey; amazing and definitely way cooler and extraordinary.

Just as my son’s eyes were opened when he wore glasses, my eyes have been opened this past month. I’ve realized no amount of money, prestige or job advancement can replace the limited amount of time I have with my family. My four children are drinking Miracle Grow, they are blooming wildly. I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a teacher like my husband and have the summers off with family. I am blessed to give my knowledge to hungry high school students and teach them skills that will last a lifetime. I am simply blessed. I was blind, but now I see.

What has God opened your blind eyes to lately?
