Philly Steak Sandwiches (1)

Happy Labor Day! I’ve labored all weekend and made it official. My final check off item is sharing this incredibly easy marinade for philly steak sandwiches. We’ve had them several times and they are delicious. I had it on my to-do list to share last week, but our accidental remodel needed to be finished. Finally, we are done with all the painting and floors and what a relief it is!

Our family picked a few $1 bag apples on Sunday (seven to be exact). We had to pick out the apples with soft spots and/or tiny holes and peel them right away for freezer apple crisp. My gracious husband peeled enough for five crisps.

I made easy caramel sauce right away. Of course, the kiddos devoured the apples right away :)

Last, but not least, I tackled my first DIY command center using the old drawers from my remodel.

The drawers were transformed into something new.

IMG_2762I didn’t have the heart to throw them out and I’m glad I didn’t.

The last of the labor was prepping this super easy steak marinade. Throw all the ingredients in the bag and I’m set for philly steak for my family. They’ll appreciate me when they eat these yummy sandwiches. Here’s the recipe I’ve been meaning to share. Have a safe, happy holiday!

Philly Steak Sandwich Marinade

Yield: 6 sandiwches

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pound beef sirloin, cut into thinly sliced 2 inch strips (1 pound is enough for 4 and 1.5 is enough for 6)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions:

Make ahead day:

  1. Freeze meat for 1-2 hours if you want super thin slices. Otherwise sharpen your knife well and slice thinly against the grain.
  2. Label gallon size freezer bag: Philly Steak.
  3. Place the beef and measure all the other ingredients in the bag.
  4. Close the bag and gently massage seasonings into the beef. Squeeze air out completely and seal. Freeze flat if desired.

Cooking day :

  1. Preheat skillet over medium-high heat. Saute beef to desired doneness, and remove from pan. Saute sliced onion, green pepper and mushrooms if desired.
  2. Preheat oven on broiler setting.
  3. Divide the meat between the bottoms of 6 rolls, layer with vegetables, then top with sliced or shredded cheese. Place on cookie sheet, and broil until cheese is melted. Cover with tops of rolls, and serve.

Will you labor a little and make these delish sandwiches this week? Be sure to purchase twice the amount of meat to freeze for future sandwiches.
