My 11-year-old is learning new skills by leaps and bounds. Not only can he crock some mean Mexi-Chicken, he can now make his own microwave popcorn without hydrogenated fat and this makes this Momma happy By the way, this is so easy my six-year-old is making his own too.
Get ready for some easy DIY ideas to take microwave popcorn to the next level.
- Label your popcorn bags with the popping time and face up on the fold out side as pictured {microwaves vary so adjust your time 1 to 2 seconds between pops)
- Measure 1/4 cup dry popcorn kernels into a paper bag.
- Fold the bag down twice as pictured.
- Drop into a large container or a gallon size bag works too.
Show your child/spouse the how to pop the popcorn the first time around {or second}. My son likes to melt a tablespoon of real butter for 15 seconds and drizzle it on top of his popcorn while dashing a little salt in between and shaking the closed bag vigorously. Feel free to shake Better Buds or healthy assorted seasonings on your popcorn instead.
I, on the other hand, am used the plain, salt-free low-calorie way of muching on some popcorn {only 130 calories}. It’s so easy and convenient to have on hand without a pot or popcorn maker to wash. It’s the perfect after school snack for the boys to make themselves. However, we still like our healthy homemade kettle corn when we’re all sitting down to movie night. Consider it a great portion control, too:)
